"Whereas, the principles of Free Masonry and deeds of charity wrought by it and in its name have been and in my opinion always will be of the highest good to humanity and I desire that those principles and deeds shall be perpetuated, now for that purpose and with that end in view, I give and bequeath to the Grand Lodge of Free and Accepted Masons in Pennsylvania the sum of Five thousand dollars to be securely invested and the income thereof used in providing a banquet every year on the first day of May or the next secular day immediately preceding that date, to which banquet there shall be invited the Grand Officers and Past Grand Officers of the Grand Lodge above mentioned, the elected officers and the Past Masters of Union Lodge No. 121 Free and Accepted Masons, my friends Robert Graham and Peter Boyd and any other Masonic Brethren whom the said Robert Graham or Peter Boyd may suggest, the purpose and object of the banquet being that those present may confer as to the condition of the Fraternity and the best manner in which its principles and deeds of charity may be advanced during the ensuing year; my experience having been that men confer better and arrive at more harmonious conclusions under the good fellowship and benign influence of such assemblies than any other."
